Judgment day
“On that Day a man will flee from his brother, from his mother and his father, from his wife and his children. For on that Day every man will have enough to make him indifferent to others.” (Quran 80:34-37)
The Hour of Resurrection will be a terrifying, overwhelming event. But despite the trauma, the believer will be in ecstasy, just as Prophet Muhammad, may the mercy and blessings of God be upon him, heard from his Lord:
Allah says: “By My Glory and Majesty, I will not give My slave two sureties and two terrors. If he feels safe from Me in the world, I will instill fear in him on the Day when I gather My slaves; and if he fears Me in the world, I will make him feel secure on the Day when I gather My slaves.”
“Surely the allies of God shall have no fear of them, neither shall they grieve: those who believed and used to fear God (in this life); for them are good tidings in this world’s life and in the Hereafter. There is no change in God’s words. There is certainly great success in that.” (Quran 10:62-64)
People who will be protected on the Day of Judgment
When all men ever created are gathered to stand naked and uncircumcised on a great plain under the ferocious scorching heat of the sun, an elite group of pious men and women will stand in the shadows beneath the Throne of God. The Prophet Muhammad has predicted who these happy souls will be, on that Day when no other shadow will avail:
- A righteous ruler who did not abuse his power, but established righteousness revealed by God among men
- A young man who grew up worshiping his Lord and controlled his desires to remain chaste
- Those who were attached to the mosques with their hearts and who, whenever they left them, longed to return
- Those who loved one another for God’s sake
- Those who were seduced by seductively beautiful women, but their fear of God prevented them from sinning
- Those who gave sincere alms for the sake of God, but kept their alms secret
- He who wept for the fear of God in solitude
Specific acts of worship will also keep people safe on that day, namely:
- Efforts in this world to alleviate the misery of the needy, to help the needy and to overlook the mistakes of others, will alleviate the people’s own misery on the Day of Judgment
- leniency towards debtors
- The righteous who are just towards their family and the things entrusted to them
- Managing anger
- who calls to prayer
- Growing old while in a state of Islam
- Regular and proper performance of ablution (wudu’)
- Those who fight on the side of Jesus son of Mary against the Anti-Christ and his army
- Martyrdom
Receiving the Book of All Actions (Kitaab Al Amal)
Allah will bring the believer close to him, shelter him, cover him and ask him about his sins. After acknowledging his sins, he will believe that he is damned, but God will say:
“I have kept it from you in this world, and I forgive you this day.”
He will be rebuked for his shortcomings, but will then have his record of good deeds delivered to his right hand.
“Then as for him to whom his deed is delivered in his right hand, he will be judged with an easy reckoning and will return to his people in happiness.” (Quran 84:7-8)
Glad when he looks at his report, he will declare his joy:
“As for him who gets his report in his right hand, he will say: ‘Here, read my report! Verily, I was sure that I would face my reckoning.’ And he will be in a pleasant life, in a lofty garden, whose harvest is near. It will be said to him: ‘Eat and drink, in satisfaction for what you did in the days of old. (Quran 69:19-24)
The good deeds will then literally be weighed to determine if they outweigh the person’s bad deeds so that reward or punishment will be applied accordingly.
“And We set the scales of justice for the Day of Resurrection, so that no soul shall be wronged. And if there is a deed the size of a mustard seed, We will bring it forth. And We are sufficient to reckon with it.” (Quran 21:47)
“So whoever does an atomic weight of good will see (the good fruits of his labor).” (Quran 99:7)
“The believers will quench their thirst from…”
“The heaviest thing that will be placed on one’s balance on the Day of Resurrection [after the testimony of faith] is good manners, and God hates the obscene, immoral person.” (Al-Tirmidhi)
The believers will quench their thirst from a special reservoir dedicated to the Prophet Muhammad. Whoever drinks from it will never experience thirst again. Its beauty, immensity and sweet, delicate taste have been described in detail by the Prophet.
The believers in Islam – both the sinful among them and the pious – as well as the hypocrites will be left in the great plain after the disbelievers have been driven to Hell. A long bridge, crossing hellfire and shrouded in darkness, will separate them from paradise.
The believers will draw strength and comfort from their speedy crossing over the roaring fires of hell and from the “light” that God will place before them and that will lead them to their eternal home: “On the day when thou shalt see the believing men and the believing women, their light passing before them and on their right hand, it shall be said, Thy good tidings of today are gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein thou shalt abide for ever. ‘ Verily, in that is the great success.” (Quran 57:12)
Finally, after crossing the bridge, the believers will be purified before entering Paradise. All accounts between the believers will be settled so that no one bears a grudge against another.
