The eating rules according to Islam
Islam has a number of rules when it comes to food that Muslims must follow. The rules are divided into the following groups:
1. Halal food: This concerns clean, permitted food.
2. Haram food: This is unclean, forbidden food.
3. Makruh food: This is food that can be eaten, but as a Muslim you are encouraged not to do this.
Foods that Muslims are not allowed to eat or drink at all are: pork, meat from carnivorous animals, blood, jelly, cheese containing animal products and also addictive substances such as drugs, cigarettes and alcohol.
Halal and Haram
When we talk about “halal”, it is simply an Islamic term for “lawfulness” or “clean”. In the case of ‘haram’ this is exactly the other way around. The word “haram” means “unclean” or “forbidden.” Food labeled as “halal” has been obtained lawfully. This means that the animal was slaughtered in the name of Allah. Blood, pork or products from carnivorous animals are ‘haram’ according to Allah and therefore prohibited for consumption.
Halal slaughter
Animals that are slaughtered halal are not just slaughtered. This ritual involves cutting the esophagus, trachea, and two carotid arteries in one go. The animal does not suffer pain because death is much faster. The name of Allah is spoken during the slaughter. This is because only Allah has the right to give or take life.
Pork according to the Quran
The Quran is clear about pork: it is forbidden to eat meat from animals that have not been slaughtered in the name of Allah. In addition, it is simply forbidden to eat all kinds of pork.
Pork and health
The Quran is the true Word of God. When something is forbidden, there is wisdom in it. This is also apparent from studies on pigs and health.
• The fat content in pork is very high. The fat of a pig contains a lot of calories that are very difficult to break down in your body. This leads to nasty health consequences.
• Pork has a high cholesterol content because of the fat. Too much cholesterol is harmful to the human body and can promote a narrowing in the blood vessels
• Pork contains proteins that can rot in your gut because of the toxins released.
• There are many hormones in pork that cause increased growth in certain people. Inflammations or cancer cells can also develop more quickly. Pork contains tumor promoting substances.
• Pork contains a high content of imadozole and histamine, which can make you more prone to pimples, allergies, neurodermatitis, abscesses, hives and carbunkels. You can even get stomach ulcers.
• There may be several types of viruses in pork that weaken the human immune system
• Pork can contain dangerous parasites that cause disease. This parasite is called trichine.
What kind of meat can you eat as a Muslim?
As a Muslim you can only eat animals that are clean. As soon as the animal also eats small animals, it is considered unclean. Clean animals are animals that eat plants such as cows, sheep, cattle, goats, calves and poultry. These animals are then slaughtered halal and may be eaten according to Islam. In addition, products such as honey, dates, certain sea creatures, milk and olive oil are especially recommended.
Exception?
Islam is a solution to many problems. If you find yourself in an exceptional situation where you cannot find food and you see a pig? Then you can slaughter and eat the pig so that you can survive. Because ’emergency breaks law’.
What if you eat pork as a Muslim?
Have you ever eaten pork as a Muslim? Although a pig is considered an unclean animal and the eating of pork is prohibited, sometimes necessities can arise. If you have eaten pork out of necessity, then you don’t have to worry too much. Allah forgives and is the most merciful, understanding will certainly be there if you have not done this out of desire or to transgress. Eating pork is forbidden according to Islam and a sinful act. Not every Muslim adheres to this strictly. It is up to you to what extent you observe the faith in its entirety or whether you combine your faith with living in a multicultural country such as the Netherlands. It is clear that most Muslims neatly adhere to the consumption rules according to Islam. Pork is therefore not eaten by most Muslims.
