Islam, the most beautiful religion in the world. Islam values hygiene so much. Every day a Muslim must pray 5 times a day, but before you pray you must be clean. You do that through the ritual washing. In this section, we will cover step-by-step how to do wudu, or abdest (in Turkish).
Important: Before we start it is important to know that the intention (Arabic: ‘niyah’) is very important in actions in Islam. For example, you can fast, but if your intention is to lose weight then it is questionable whether your act will be accepted by Allah. But… the intention (including expressing it explicitly) is not necessary for validating wudu’. 4 elements are fardh for the little ablution, or obligatory: your face, your arms, your head and your feet must be washed (no dry spot during washing).
Step 1:
Wash your hands 3 times and make sure no part stays dry.
Important! Do you wear rings? Then you also have to clean under your rings with water. If you have nail polish or something similar, it must be removed.
Tip: it is sunnah not to use more water than necessary.
“Don’t waste water, even if you are by the flowing river” Sunan Ibn Majah 425
Step 2:
Rinse your mouth 3 times with your right hand.
Step 3:
Wash your nose 3 times. Sniff water from your right hand and blow it out with your left.
Step 4:
Wash your face 3 times from one ear to the other and from your forehead to your chin. Here too, do not leave any place dry
Step 5:
Start with the right again and wash your forearms up to and including your elbows.
Step 6:
Rub your head once. Wet your palm and stroke your head with it.
Step 7:
Then wet your fingertips and clean your ears. Create with your thumb clean the back of your ears, from top to bottom.
Step 8:
Wash your feet up to and including your ankles. Also start here from right to left. Wash well between your toes. Again, do not leave any spot dry.
